ElizaOS is an open-source framework for building autonomous AI agents, and the technical core of what is often called the first AI-led DAO. It began in October 2024 as ai16z, a parody of the venture firm a16z, and rebranded to ElizaOS in early 2025 after a request from Andreessen Horowitz.
What it is
The Eliza framework is a multi-agent toolkit for creating, deploying, and managing autonomous agents across platforms, built primarily around Solana. The AI16Z token remains the governance token, and holders vote alongside the DAO's AI persona on treasury and strategy. The rebrand was cosmetic: no new token, no roadmap reset, ticker kept.
How it works
Developers pull the open-source framework and deploy agents that keep consistent behavior across channels like X and Discord. Adoption has been the real story: the framework was used by dozens of teams in Solana AI hackathons. In 2025 the team shipped auto.fun, a no-code platform so non-developers can spin up agents that trade, run social accounts, or manage yield.
